Come and play with the Southsea Chamber Group

We are a small group of amateur musicians who enjoy playing classical music together.

The group was formerly known as the Southsea Chamber orchestra and in the past performed concerts locally.

During rehearsals, a lady used to sit in the corner of the room but never spoke to any of the musicians. They presumed she was there on behalf of the Salvation Army, who own the premises. But this anonymous lady left the organisation a large amount of money with the result that now we are the beneficiaries – the ‘rent’ for the hall is paid for by her legacy!

We meet in the Salvation Army Hall, 84 Albert Rd, Southsea, PO5 2SN every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9 pm. The group has access to an enormous musical library which is kept in the Salvation Army Hall.

There is no audition and it costs nothing to join us. Players need to be able to sight-read as the programme is decided on the evening depending on the number of players who are there. I was introduced to this group to improve my sight-reading, and it has!

There is limited parking on Albert Road but additional parking in the St Simon’s car park behind the hall.
