Following the success of the Family Concerts in January 2019 and January 2020, the Chichester Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present ‘A Family Concert – Meet the Orchestra in the Classics’. It will be a wonderful programme:
Berlioz – Roman Carnival Overture
Tchaikovsky – Waltz of the Flowers and Pas de Deux from The Nutcracker
Smetana – Vltava from De Moldau
Gershwin (Arr. Whitney) – An American in Paris
Wagner – Prelude to Lohengrin Act 3
All these pieces are immensely listenable-to, from the grand Prelude to Lohengrin, the exciting Roman Carnival to the witty American in Paris. The beautiful Vltava, the story of a river, is often used in schools for children’s first introduction to storytelling music, and the Nutcracker is an everlasting winter favourite. The conductor, Simon Wilkins, will introduce the sections of the colour coded orchestra and take the audience through the character of each piece. As before, it will be a fun afternoon!
