“Ensemble Hesperi’s dazzling and stylish performance of these attractive works captivated our audience, and their presentation of these remarkable Scottish folk settings gave a real insight into this hitherto neglected repertoire.” Three Towers Festival

Award-winning period instrument group Ensemble Hesperi present their imaginative and engaging project based on Scottish Baroque music and dance. Exploring recently discovered works and composers from lowland Scotland, they showcase the unique charm and distinctive character of this music, following the lives of Scottish-born composers such as James Oswald (1710-1769) and William McGibbon (1696-1756). Guiding the audience through the through a sequence of timeless folk tunes and infectious dance rhythms, the ensemble is joined by Scottish dancer Kathleen Gilbert.

Join Ensemble Hesperi earlier in the afternoon for a unique dance workshop. Kathleen Gilbert will lead participants through a selection of simple dances, teaching some basic steps and introducing everyone to some of the fascinating history of Highland Dance. The workshop will be accompanied by live eighteenth century music from members of the ensemble by Scottish Baroque composers Robert Bremner and John Reid. Highland dancing is a great workout – so wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and bring a bottle of water!

The dance workshop will take place on the grassy area to the side of the church, near the parking area. If you’re attending the dance workshop AND the evening concert then the workshop is free when both are booked at the same time.

Dance Workshop: 3.00pm (Ends approximately 5.00pm)
Workshop tickets £5 (18 and under £3), or FREE when purchased with evening concert ticket
