The concert of Christmas music contains a wealth of beautiful works. The first half is an amalgam of the Magnificats by Bach and Vivaldi, interspersed with Bach solos for flute and piccolo trumpet. The latter will be played by Lucy Humphris, who was invited to give a recital in America in July. It was greeted with rapturous applause.
The second half of the concert is devoted to a variety of joyous and contemplative carols by Vaughan Williams, Warlock, Tavener, Gardner and Chilcott. There are also solo pieces for recorder and clarinet.
