Japanese lovers lose their hearts – or their heads?
Havant Light Opera present one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most well-known works – The Mikado. The opera lampoons aspects of Victorian Britain’s politics and aristocracy disguised by its setting in exotic Japan. The story is a tangled web of intrigue, false identities, love and marriage with the threat of execution for flirting overshadowing all involved. A complex satire characterised by clever wordplay, memorable tunes, colourful costumes and endearing characters has resulted in a show that has been popular with audiences for well over a century.
