Offenbach’s uproarious take on the legend pits Orpheus against Eurydice. He is a musician, she hates his music, and both are having affairs. When she dies from a snake-bite, he is delighted, but Public Opinion dictates that he must at least feign grief and go to the Underworld to retrieve her. Eurydice, however, has other ideas… Featuring the famous can-can, which later became notorious at the Moulin Rouge, Offenbach’s catchy tunes and sparkling orchestration will surely send you away with a smile!
