BRAHMS Variations on a theme by Haydn Op.56b (St. Anthony Chorale)
GUASTAVINO 3 Argentinian Romances
TCHAIKOVSKY The ‘Nutcracker’ Suite Op.71a
(arr. for two pianos by Nicolas Economou)
Due to the Covid crisis, our concert on 11th November with the Rosamunde Trio has had to be postponed However, we are delighted to announce that Martino Tirimo (the Trio’s pianist and leader) and his brilliant student Atsuko Kawakami will be giving a recital for piano duo instead. The pair will be playing a very attractive programme of music entitled ‘The Dance in Music’, and includes music by Brahms (St. Anthony Variations) and Tchaikovsky (Nutcracker Suite).
Tirimo’s playing has been described as belonging to the past generation of great pianists. He came to world attention in 1971/72 when he won the international competitions in Munich and Geneva and has since appeared frequently with all the major London and UK orchestras as well as the leading orchestras in Berlin, Cleveland, Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Prague, Vienna and other centres, with conductors such as Barbirolli, Boult, Masur, Sanderling and Rattle. He has also directed from the keyboard several cycles of the Beethoven Concertos, with the Dresden Philharmonic, notably in Germany and at the Royal Festival Hall.
