Chichester Symphony Orchestra is a long-standing local amateur orchestra with some 35 to 40 members from all walks of life. It rehearses each week in central Chichester and gives four concerts a year, in Chichester, regularly in the cathedral’s Tuesday lunchtime series and one as part of the Festival Of Chichester in the summer. Recently the orchestra has started to include a themed family concert in its annual programme which has proved very successful.

To find out more about the orchestra, including future concert dates or joining the group as an instrumentalist, see its page on Music in Portsmouth.

Simon Wilkins is an experienced conductor of amateur orchestras in the south of England, and is particularly committed to the encouragement and development of non-professional musicians. As an accomplished cellist, he has also performed many concertos, and hopes to perform with, and still direct, the Chichester Symphony Orchestra in one of their concerts in 2023.

Tim Rumsey is a tenacious, dynamic young pianist with a passion for a wide variety of music. An experienced concert soloist and ensemble performer, Tim has delighted audiences at venues including the Wigmore Hall, St. John’s Smith Square and the V&A Museum. He is currently in his final year of his Masters degree.

Tim has an equal passion for composition, arrangement and jazz, being a keen jazz pianist and playing at venues around London and the south of England. Recent projects also include a solo arrangement of Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’ for his trio with violin and clarinet.

Chichester Cathedral’s popular lunchtime concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.10pm during term time, in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave. They are free and last approximately 50 minutes.

There is a retiring collection.
