Chichester Cathedral Lunchtime Concerts series: Thomas Howell, organ

Chichester Cathedral’s popular lunchtime concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.10pm during term time, in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave. They are free and last approximately 50 minutes. There is a retiring collection.

Tom Howell is a pupil of Gerdi Troskie and performs regularly as a soloist and accompanist. Before taking up the organ scholarship of Chichester Cathedral in 2020, he was organist and choirmaster of St David’s of Resolven, organist of St Catherine’s Church, Melin and organ scholar of Llandovery College. Being Welsh, Tom couldn’t escape the male choir tradition and was the accompanist of Neath Male Choir for over four years and was involved with the continuation and development of much local music-making.

Tom has been awarded bursaries from the Royal College of Organists including the William Robertshaw Exhibition and the Dr John Birch Scholarship for his CRCO results. He is an associate of the Royal Schools of Music in piano performance and has ABRSM grade eight voice and theory.

In September Tom will continue his organ studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

As well as its regular and special services, Chichester Cathedral runs a series of popular lunchtime concerts on Tuesdays.
