The Chichester Symphony Orchestra is delighted to be back at St Paul’s Church and is equally delighted to welcome back its soloist, Pavlos Carvalho.

Inspired by Mozart, Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations are the closest he came to writing a full concerto for cello and orchestra, whereas the shorter Nocturne is a romantic character piece, depicting melancholic moods of the evening.

The little known Noon Witch is a rare excursion into programme music, and with the macabre witches’ dance, shows Dvorak at his scariest. Sibelius in his Symphony no 2 is touchingly optimistic about his nation’s struggle for independence, yet also depicts the enormous skies and rugged landscape.
