Overture in the Italian Style in C, D.591 – Schubert

Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major, K.218 – Mozart
Soloist: Alexandra Peel

Symphony No. 4 in A major, “Italian” – Mendelssohn

It might be a bit dark and gloomy in Fareham in February but come along and experience the warmth of the Italian sunshine at our concert featuring local young violin soloist Alexandra Peel.

The composers are all German, but they all loved to travel and to explore the music of other countries. Schubert wrote his two Overtures later dubbed ‘In the Italian Style’ out of admiration for the great opera composer Rossini. Mendelssohn was greatly inspired by landscapes and said in a letter home from Italy that this, his fourth symphony, was “the jolliest piece I have ever done”.

Mozart, of course, travelled extensively around Europe from a very early age and his Violin Concerto No. 4 is, like the Mendelssohn, joyful and full of fun.
