Mozart Piano Concerto No.1
Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2
Ben Lathbury, Piano
Jon Grave, Orchestral Reduction
Ben writes: First of all, W.A. Mozart’s relatively little-known early work, Piano Concerto No.1 in F major. “Written” (and I use the word advisedly) at the tender age of 11, this has all the charm of the early classical repertoire and has been a lot of fun to prepare. This lesser-known work is going to be paired with the rather better-known Piano Concerto No.2 in F major by Dmitri Shostakovich. I’ll save the lecture recital notes for Sunday evening, but suffice it to say, they make a very interesting, yet surprisingly complementary pairing. I’m delighted to be joined once again by Jon Grave, who will be providing the orchestral reduction for the two concerti.
As ever, admission is free with a retiring collection afterwards.
