Portsmouth Chamber Music Series: Leonore Piano Trio

Portsmouth Chamber Music Series

Lucy Gould – violin (of the Gould Piano Trio)
Gemma Rosefield – cello
Tim Horton – piano

Haydn’s trio in the unusual key of F-sharp minor is a wonderful late work. Mendelssohn’s first published trio is arguably his finest chamber work, symphonic in nature in four beautifully worked-out movements.

Haydn – Piano Trio in F-sharp minor, Hob. XV/26

Beethoven – E-flat trio, Op. 1 No. 1

Mendelssohn – Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49

The Leonore Piano Trio was formed ten years ago and rapidly established itself as one of the pre-eminent piano trios in the world. It is highly committed to new music.

Formed in 2012, consisting of three internationally acclaimed artists who have performed at prestigious venues worldwide, they offer a diverse repertoire, and performances are known for their intelligence, style, and technical mastery, evident in their critically acclaimed recordings for the Hyperion label.

They have completed a full cycle of Beethoven’s piano trios and duos and premiered works by composers including Birtwistle and Huw Watkins.
