Trial by Jury – Christmas edition! A legal pantomime, with apologies to Gilbert & Sullivan, followed by festive music and carols with audience participation, performed by Havant Light Opera.
Havant Light Opera returns to the stage with a festive extravaganza.
Gilbert & Sullivan’s Trial by Jury is a whimsical work that is a delightfully ludicrous but gentle satire on the due processes of the law. The story concerns the glamorous plaintiff, jilted by her dastardly fiancé, whom she decides to sue for breach of promise of marriage. The Judge, and indeed all the members of the jury, fall for her charms, so will she finally manage to walk down the aisle?
The eccentric characters and absurd plot are perfect for the festive pantomime treatment – with all the traditional topical humour, colourful characters, dastardly villains and beautiful heroine, and of course some audience participation!
The second half of the evening will be a medley of Christmas music and carols – a perfect chance for the audience to sing along to well-known and best-loved festive favourites.
