A wonderful evening of music given by one the best children’s’ choirs in Sussex, featuring works by Handel, Mozart, Elgar, Rutter and Chilcott.
Westbourne House Chapel Choir consists of some fifty boys and girls aged between ten and thirteen. Their main role is to provide music at the school’s weekly chapel services, thus sacred music forms the core of their repertoire. The choir also forms the basis of the chorus for the school’s annual musical production (previous productions include The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls and Annie). The choir regularly provides the top line for the Shopwyke Singers, with whom they have sung well-known choral works such as the Duruflé Requiem, Bach’s Wachet Auf, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and John Rutter’s Mass of the Children, enjoying a private master class with the composer. They have sung in concerts and services in and around Chichester, including prestigious venues such as Chichester and Arundel Cathedrals. Further afield, the choir has undertaken tours to Paris (singing at Notre Dame Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral, the Eglise Madeleine and Disneyland), to Rome (St Peter’s Basilica, S. Eustachio and St Paul’s-within-the-Walls) and Tuscany (Pisa Cathedral, Santa Maria di Ricci in Florence, and Montecatini Basilica).
The choir has recorded four CDs, the most recent being ‘Heritage’, an Anthology of Folk Songs, and ‘Midwinter’, a recording of music for Advent and Christmas.
