The piece, commissioned by the choir in 2016 to mark its 40th birthday, is a setting of extracts from Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali (1910). The disc also features a recording of Francis Poulenc’s Gloria accompanied by the marvellous Karen Kingsley on piano. Renaissance motets by Orlande de Lassus and William Byrd complete the album.
The release will be available as a physical CD at £10 a copy and through online music stores including Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, and Spotify. This is the first time a Renaissance Choir album has been available online and we hope it will bring our music to a much wider audience than was previously possible, particularly as we are showcasing a new work by a Hampshire-based composer.
The recording, directed by Peter Gambie, took place at Kingston University’s Visconti Studio where choir member Isabella van Elferen is Director.
