PCU sing “HMS Pinafore”

Portsmouth Choral Union presented a workshop and semi staged performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ever popular ‘HMS Pinafore’ at St. Mary’s Alverstoke.

The choir was delighted to welcome the many additional singers who joined them for the workshop part of proceedings and equally delighted to see an enthusiastic audience for the final performance.

Most of the solo parts were performed by members of the choir, though they were fortunate to have the opulently voiced Faye Eldret join them for the role of Josephine, and distinguished former member of D’Oyle Carte, Philip Blake-Jones, to sing Sir Joseph Porter – and also provide narration.

Conductor David Gostick directed both musical and dramatic proceedings with calm authority, and the sparkling piano accompaniment was provided by Ian Richardson.  This was a most enjoyable event and great fun for both performers and audience.
