We offer lots of ways to get involved in music-making at the University of Portsmouth.
Our aim is to provide accessible and enjoyable opportunities for students, staff and members of the local community.
We bring diverse groups of people together to listen and participate in music in a number of different settings. We also help individuals to realise their musical potential.
We embrace all levels from beginners to advanced performers and provide a supportive, friendly and socially vibrant environment to engage with music.
We offer specialist facilities, a range of different ensembles, numerous listening and performing opportunities, links with the curriculum and specialist staff to support musical learning. The Music Department also offers a wide range of activities for students who are interested in music, regardless of which degree they are studying for.
Groups on offer include Choir, Orchestra, Concert Band, Big Band, and the Dramatic and Musical Society. A variety of smaller ensembles such as string quartets and brass quintets are also available according to need. In addition, some instruments are available for hire, and private tuition can be arranged for most instruments as well as voice and music theory.
