Preview: Hampshire Police MVC – Coronation Concert in Wickham

The Hampshire Police Male Voice Choir presents a Coronation Concert with John Mansfield (organ) on 13 May at St Nicholas’ Church in Wickham.

It begins with a specially written Coronation Fanfare for Organ and Choir followed by The National Anthem.

Highland Cathedral, a popular, uplifting piece follows; then Vivaldi’s exciting Gloria Chorus will be performed to give the concert a celebratory feel.

John Mansfield, a member of the choir’s First Tenor Section, will play two pieces on the St. Nicholas Organ. They are by Daquin and Rawsthorne, the latter being a Humoresque Hornpipe.

A beautiful setting of the Benedictus by the Welsh composer, Robat Arwyn will precede Mozart’s Laudate Dominum, sung by the Assistant Musical Director, Sian Bibby-Hsia. The Welsh Hymn-Tune Llanfair takes us jubilantly into the interval.

Four melodious pieces, On a Clear Day, What a Wonderful World, Fly Me To The Moon and She Was Beautiful (Cavatina) are sure to please the audience, whilst What Would I Do Without My Music is a favourite male voice choir piece. John Mansfield will join accompanist, Sian Bibby-Hsia, on the organ in the final section of An American Trilogy to bring the evening to a triumphant conclusion.

Hampshire Police Male Voice Choir usually have an encore up their sleeve in case the audience would like more. Sometimes the conductor, Geoff Porter, has been known to invite everyone to clap along with the encore choice!
