Review: Portsmouth University Choir at Holy Trinity Gosport: “Evening Song”

Maggie McMurray writes:

I can think of no better way to have closed the 2018 tea-time concert programme than with the collective sound of well over 100 voices and the elegantly soaring soprano voice of Rebecca Silverman swelling the acoustics in the beautiful setting of Holy Trinity Church!

The music programme, a delight from start to finish and clearly enjoyed by the large audience, included familiar tunes sung beautifully by the Student Choir, such as ‘Goodnite Sweetheart’ by Carter and Hudson, and ‘Abide with Me’ by Victor Johnson; and by the whole company, ‘Jubilate, Amen’ by Max Bruch, ‘Laudate Dominum’ by Mozart and a tremendous finale of ‘Soir Sur La Plaine’ by Lilli Boulanger.

Choir members were spellbound under the magnetism of George Burrows’ direction; we are hugely grateful to George for bringing the University of Portsmouth Choirs, to all performers for their memorable concert, to Anthony Groves for his superb accompaniment and Rebecca Silverman for sharing her exquisite voice with us.
