I can report my recent appearance with the Solent Symphony Orchestra as part of their “A Night at the Movies” – where I performed extracts from the second movement of Rachmaniov’s Piano Concerto no.2 went exceptionally well.
One of the other pieces performed by the orchestra (with Steve Tanner as Conductor; and David Price on the cathedral organ) was a stirring performance of “Sunrise” – the introduction to Richard Straus’s Tone Poem “Also Sprach Zarathustra”. Which I’m sure is instantly recognisable by all.
They’d turned the lights down low to create an eerie atmosphere – and the cathedral’s acoustics also lending to a dramatic and telling performance.
Here is the performance. Watch it on YouTube.
