The Chichester Voluntary Choir seeks a new director of music

The 40-strong Chichester Cathedral Voluntary Choir leads Cathedral choral worship for a few services throughout the year, when the Cathedral Choir are not in residence. Typically this might mean a weekday Evensong, or perhaps a full Sunday of services, every few months. The repertoire sung is traditional choral works, from well-loved composers such as Tallis, Stanford and Rose.

The choir was established in 2016 with the support of the cathedral’s Community Committee. It was agreed at the outset that the choir should be self funding and independent of the cathedral.

The choir is now seeking a new director of music.

The director recruits the members and manages the administration of the choir in relation to bookings, rehearsal venue, attendance and music (provided online). The director also recruits the organist for the services. The director and organist receive payment on a fee basis.

The time commitment is entirely dependant on the availability of the director, so they are not committed to a fixed number of bookings each year. An evensong booking would require a 2 hour rehearsal (weekday evening) plus an hour in the cathedral with organist before the service. A weekend booking would require rehearsal on Friday evening and Saturday morning followed by cathedral rehearsals on Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and afternoon.
